Facial Rejuvenation Injectables in Toronto

Facial rejuvenation has been transformed by the availability of safe injectables.

Botox and Xeomin

Botox injections are targeted to inhibit muscle contraction, and can be used to alter facial expressions and blunt the unnecessary motion that creates skin wrinkles. Do you need to be a Plastic Surgeon to inject Botox? No. But we believe that expertise in understanding the individual muscles that create facial expression and their precise location allows a Plastic Surgeon to be more accurate, efficient and selective in your Botox injections.

Xeomin is a relatively new neuromodulator that differs from Botox by having less potential for the development of antibodies that prevent the neuromodulator from working.

This family of drugs are useful in the upper face to reduce forehead creases, to lift the lateral eyebrow, to diminish frown lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. In the lower face we use neuromodulators to reduce wrinkles in the upper lip and to lift the corners of the mouth (vs. ‘resting bitch face’).  They can reduce platysma bands at the front of the neck, and can reduce the masseter muscle that can create a wide jawline and contribute to teeth grinding.
We also inject Botox to control armpit sweating (I know- how did they discover that one?!).

In our reconstructive practice, we use Botox to improve some facial scars, and to relax and rebalance facial muscles that are compromised by facial nerve disorders.

Hyaluronic Acid (e.g. Juvederm) Fillers

Hyaluronic acid (e.g. Juvederm) is our favourite temporary injectable for increasing volume.

We use 5 different types of Juvederm, depending on whether we want a filler to inject near the skin surface that blends easily without creating nodules, or a stiff filler that is used deeper in the tissues to create a lifting effect.
Fillers have developed a somewhat negative reputation because they can be injected by clinicians (nurses, dentists, surgeons, family doctors) who may have limited expertise and are more likely to use a filler or botox when perhaps surgery is necessary.  Do not judge fillers by that strange puffy face that you just saw-  there are probably many people around you who have fillers and  you don’t know it because they were used properly.

Don’t worry about which filler you need and how much.  That is our job, and you can trust that we have the tools to achieve your goals even if fillers are not the best option for you.

The most common issues we treat are wrinkly skin around the mouth (Skinvive), lip augmentation and filling in hollow temples (Volbella), lifting deep nasolabial folds (Volift), lifting cheeks and tear troughs (Voluma), and improving jawline, cheek, chin and nasal contours (Volux).  Volux has allowed us to achieve results that previously required surgical implants, and at a fraction the cost and risks and with minimal downtime.
