Liposuction
Once you reach adulthood, the number of fat cells in your body is relatively fixed. Obesity results when excess calories are stored in these pre-existing fat cells as triglyceride. Liposuction permanently removes fat cells, and thus permanently changes where you will accumulate fat. It is not a weight control technique, but rather a tool for controlling where you will store excess fat. In fact, some patients put on weight after liposuction because they no longer have their hated ‘muffin top’ or ‘thunder thighs’, and become less careful with diet and exercise.

With so many different liposuction power tools available, why do we still primarily perform super-wet liposuction with the manual syringe technique? Precision. Just as master sculptors and painters would never use a power tool, neither would we. And we have the 'before and after' photos to convince you that the extra effort is worth it. We offer high-volume (> 5 litre) liposuction to carefully selected patients, and this surgery is performed in hospital. We have achieved astonishing results even in women with less than ideal skin tone, such as those over 60 years old, or after major weight-loss.
Liposuction allows for an almost immediate return to daily activities, and exercise programs can resume within two weeks. A compression garment (like a girdle) is recommended for wear to provide comfort and possibly a moulding-effect during the healing process. Results are evident within three weeks (sometimes sooner, depending on swelling), and can be dramatic or subtle, depending on how much treatment was necessary.

Short incisions are made through the skin to introduce the instrument that will remove fat in the shaded areas. A similar technique may be used to remove localized fat deposits from other areas of the body.

A long, hollow tube with an opening at one end is inserted. At the tube’s opposite end, a vacuum pressure unit suctions off fat. Ultrasonic energy sometimes may be used to liquefy fat before it is removed.
