Patients often express surprise that they will not require drains after their abdominoplasty/tummy tuck. Although some surgeons continue to use drains, our experience over the past 10 years matches published reports in which drains can be eliminated if certain steps are taken during surgery. Most importantly, we place ‘progressive tension sutures’ to attach the skin back to the muscle layer. Not only does this close the space that would otherwise accumulate blood/fluid, but it allows the final wound edge closure to occur without tension. This helps to prevent the scar from riding up (above the bikini line)after surgery, and may prevent scar problems that arise from excessive tension.

I need a tummy tuck, have had eight pregnancies, 6 live children, my breasts sag and my inside thighs are horrible cottage cheese.
I am only 42, and feel terrible about myself.
How much would it cost for at least the tummy tuck?
Is it better to do it in Montreal, as I live outside Montreal and who would you recommend?
thanks

Hi Tori,
As wonderful as it is to have children, pregnancy can take a terrible toll on your body.
In our practice, a tummy tuck can range in price from $3500 to $9000, depending on the extent of the necessary surgery.
In general, it is better to have surgery within an hour of where you live. In this way, you are able to readily access your surgeon for scheduled and (rarely) emergency visits. That said, we have operated on patients from around the world, and after 5 days it should be safe to return to Montreal and then day trip for any further follow-up.
Good luck!

Hey Dr. Kreidstein,
I have 1 child but I look like I have multiple. I am weighing my options on getting a mommy make over, more so a tummy tuck and a breast lift. Can you tell me how much will this cost me and how safe are the procedures. I am 25 yrs old.

Hi Stacy,
An important consideration for you is whether you intend to have further children. Remember that a future pregancy could ‘undo’ the results of a beautiful tummy tuck or breast lift. That said, these procedures are generally safe to do together, and require about 4 hours of surgical time. Fees are about $6000 for breast lift, and $7500 for tummy.

I have already put a deposit down with a plastic surgeon for a tummy tuck; however, now I am finding things on the internet that would lead me to believe that this Dr. may not be the best option for this procedure. Is there any way to get back my $750 deposit. Should I just ignore the internet…The Dr. showed me pictures of before and after, and gave me an example of what I may look like after the surgery…Because, I am spending so much money on this procedure I want to go to the one that specializes in tummy tucks. Can you give me any suggestions..BTW – You are rated the best on this particular website (Rate Your Dr.)

Two important issues here:
1. the internet is a great source of information, and misinformation. Just because someone posted something nasty on a message board doesn’t make it true. If your other research on this surgeon is favourable, and you had a good consultation, this should be weighed against what someone (maybe a competitor!) wrote about that surgeon.
2. It is customary for surgical practices to collect a reservation fee/deposit. Your surgeon may have turned away other patients who wanted your surgery time. If you give them sufficient notice to schedule someone else in that time, they may be able to refund part of your reservation fee.
Good Luck!

Hi I have been considering a tummy tuck for quite some time – ( I had my daughter ten yrs ago but she was almost 10lbS!!!) I am pretty lean and I work out quite a bit but the lower part of my tummy sags and my belly button does too. I went for a few consultations and was told I would need a partial tummy tuck to get rid of the loose skin (no lipo) – what is the recovery time for a procedure like this?

also what is the cost for this and do you charge a consultation fee?

It sounds as though a lower abdominoplasty has been suggested for you, although this procedure would not help a sagging belly button. People are able to care for themselves the next day, return to work in four days and work out in the gym in three weeks. We do collect a $200 consultation fee which is applied towards the cost of your surgery (~$3500).
